Despite being recognized as one of Nepal’s most well-developed districts, Chitwan still has many families relying on traditional firewood for cooking—a practice that poses serious health and environmental risks. To address this issue, Sapana Village Social Impact recently distributed biomass cooking stoves to 150 families in Kalika Municipality, Ward No. 2, in collaboration with local government.
This initiative follows an earlier distribution of 78 stoves in the same ward, bringing the total number of beneficiary families to 228. The improved stoves are designed to reduce smoke emissions, lower fuel consumption, and minimize health risks associated with indoor air pollution—a leading cause of respiratory diseases in rural households. The handover ceremony was attended by local government representatives, who praised the efforts of Sapana Village and its partners in supporting underprivileged communities. This initiative was made possible through the generous support of Riksja Travels, Netherlands, in funding such impactful projects in Nepal. Their contribution has been instrumental in improving the living conditions of needy families in Chitwan.
