In a reminder of the healthcare challenges faced in remote communities, Gaj Bahadur Chepang, a 35-year-old man from Siddhi, has been completely immobile for the past two years after a devastating accident, with no access to medical treatment until a recent intervention. Chepang's life was irrevocably altered two years ago when he suffered a severe knee injury after falling from a tree. Since the accident, he has been confined to his home, unable to walk or work. Without the means to afford medical care, his condition has remained untreated, leading to a significant and painful deterioration.
The gravity of his situation came to light during a recent field visit by our organization. Our Chairperson encountered Gaj Bahadur at his roadside residence, where he was found sleeping on the floor, highlighting the dire circumstances of his daily life. Family members and neighbors, who have been his only support system, confirmed the severity of his prolonged suffering and his complete lack of access to any form of medical assistance. "It is heartbreaking to witness such a situation where a treatable injury has led to a complete loss of livelihood and dignity. No one should have to endure this level of suffering in silence." our Chairperson stated after the visit.
Moved by his plight, SVSI is now committed to facilitating his medical treatment. We are taking immediate steps to connect him with medical professionals, arrange for a proper diagnosis, and cover the costs of his treatment and rehabilitation. The intervention offers a new beginning for Gaj Bahadur Chepang, turning a story of neglect into one of potential recovery and hope.
