Traditional stoves, redesigned with modern techniques and chimneys, are emerging as an eco-friendly and health-conscious solution in the central hills of Chitwan. Kalika Municipality and Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality have seen the introduction of these improved stoves, particularly in Siddhi and Kaule, with support from the SVSI.
Previously, households relied on conventional stoves that produced excessive smoke, posing serious health risks—especially for those spending long hours in the kitchen. The new SVSI model significantly reduces smoke emissions while also cutting firewood consumption, making it both efficient and sustainable. Local communities have welcomed the change, citing improved indoor air quality and reduced respiratory problems. As awareness grows, more families are adopting these smokeless stoves, marking a shift toward healthier and more environmentally friendly cooking practices. The initiative highlights how simple, innovative solutions can enhance living standards while preserving traditional ways of life. With continued support, such efforts could expand further, benefiting more rural households in Nepal.
