On November 14 2025, A special orientation session on coffee plantation and its economic potential was conducted at Ghurkesh Rain Community this week, drawing the participation of 27 enthusiastic farmers from the area. The session was facilitated by Mr. Bidhan Tiwari Upadhyaya. The program focused on introducing coffee as a high-value crop suitable for the sloppy and terraced landscapes of Ghurkesh. The training provided an overview of coffee farming, including its environmental requirements, agronomic practices, and long-term profitability. A highlight of the session was the cost analysis of establishing a coffee plantation on one kattha of land, which helped farmers understand potential investment needs and projected returns.
The session was conducted in the presence of Mr. Dhruba Giri, Founder of SVSI, who encouraged farmers to explore coffee cultivation as an emerging opportunity. He expressed the organization’s continued commitment to supporting local communities in adopting ecological and income-generating agricultural practices. Farmers from Ghurkesh Rain Community actively engaged in the discussion and expressed strong interest in piloting coffee cultivation on their available farmland. Many noted that the crop’s compatibility with hilly terrain could help them make productive use of their sloped and terrace fields. SVSI plans to conduct follow-up sessions and provide technical guidance to farmers who wish to adopt coffee plantation in the coming months.
