Changing Lives through Access to Safe Drinking Water in Bartesh, Chitwan
Chyanti Maya Chepang, a resident of Bartesh, lives with her family of five in difficult economic conditions with limited access to basic services. For many years, she struggled to access safe drinking water and had to walk more than two hours daily to collect water for household use and livestock. This daily effort was physically tiring and affected her family’s well-being.
To address this urgent need, Sapana Village Social Impact (SVSI) under the Comprehensive Community Development Program (CCDP) in collaboration with the Bartesh community, successfully implemented a drinking water project. The project was constructed a water intake system at the main source and a distribution network was developed to provide water directly to eight households in the area through tap connections.
After completion of the project, clean and safe drinking water is now available at eight households including Chyanti Maya’s home. This has greatly reduced her workload and improved daily living conditions.
Chyanti Maya says, "Now water is available at my home. I no longer walk for hours, and my family is healthier and my life is much easier."
This improvement has not only saved time and reduced physical burden but has also significantly enhanced health, hygiene and dignity within the Bartesh community. It clearly demonstrates that SVSI-led, community-based initiatives are capable of delivering practical and sustainable change in rural and underserved areas.
