Comprehensive Community Development Program
Sapana Village Social Impact (SVSI) has launched the Comprehensive Community Development Programme project to empower 1,289 families, primarily from the Chepang community, through sustainable development initiatives. The project operates in Siddhi (Kalika 10 and 11) and Kaule (Ichchhakamana-1), located in Nepal’s Chitwan District, and will benefit a total of 7,411 people across 13 villages. In collaboration with local health posts, schools, government bodies, and youth leaders, this three-year project focuses on building community resilience by improving healthcare, sanitation, food security, and income-generating opportunities.
The program follows a structured approach, starting with Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) education, followed by two years of intensive community mobilization, and concluding in a final phase focused on combining progress and addressing remaining challenges. It will empower local youth, enhancing their leadership skills and ensuring long-term sustainability. SVSI’s goal is to foster self-reliant communities capable of driving their own development.
Key Focus Areas
1. Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
The project prioritizes improving access to safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, and hygienic living conditions. Key interventions include construction and restoration of toilets, promotion of smokeless stoves, water supply systems, and WASH training for communities and students. These efforts aim to reduce waterborne diseases, improve household health, and promote sustainable hygiene practices.
2. Agriculture, Livelihoods, and Vocational Training
The project supports both farming and non-farming households to strengthen economic resilience:
- Agriculture & Livelihoods:
SVSI plans to train 150 farmers in modern agricultural techniques to cultivate 200 acres of land, enhancing productivity and food security. Income-generating activities such as poultry farming, goat rearing, and vegetable cultivation are promoted to diversify household income. - Vocational Training & Entrepreneurship:
A total of 156 youths will receive vocational skills training in trades such as masonry, tailoring, and hospitality. Additionally, 60 individuals will be supported to establish small businesses, fostering entrepreneurship and local employment opportunities.
Project Achievements
SVSI has already made notable progress in Kaule and Siddhi communities:
- Access to household sanitation has significantly improved, with the number of families using toilets doubling.
- Adoption of improved farming techniques has increased agricultural productivity, contributing to better household income and nutrition.
- WASH awareness initiatives and infrastructure development have strengthened community health outcomes.
- Capacity-building programs have successfully engaged youths, mothers’ groups, and local stakeholders.
Building on these achievements, the project will continue integrating WASH improvements, livelihood support, and vocational training, in close coordination with local government bodies. This approach ensures sustainable development, long-term economic growth, and improved quality of life for the target communities.
