Chitwan, Nepal – As part of the IRHA Project, an exposure visit was organized for aspiring homestay owners from the Ghurkesh Rain Community to enhance their knowledge and practical understanding of community-based tourism management.
The visit brought together 25 primary stakeholders who traveled to Madi to observe and learn from two well-established community initiatives: Madi Homestay and the Fulbari Woman's Group. The programme aimed to provide participants with firsthand experience of successful homestay operations and community-driven tourism practices.
During the visit, participants engaged in discussions with local operators and community leaders, gaining valuable insights into homestay management, guest services, community participation, financial management, and sustainable tourism practices. The interactions provided practical examples of how community-based tourism can generate income while preserving local culture and strengthening community development.
The exposure visit also created an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences, discuss challenges, and explore strategies for improving tourism services within their own community.
Building on the knowledge and inspiration gained through the visit, Sapana Village Social Impact (SVSI) plans to undertake additional initiatives to support the development of Ghurkesh Homestay. These efforts may include orientation programmes, capacity-building training, and technical support aimed at enhancing service quality, strengthening management skills, and promoting sustainable tourism opportunities in the community.
Through such initiatives, the IRHA Project and SVSI continue to empower local communities by fostering inclusive tourism development and creating pathways for sustainable livelihoods.
