Surya Maya Chepang, 43, lives in Dinglang, Ward No. 1 of Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality. She is the mother of two sons and two daughters. Her life has been full of challenges, especially after losing her husband. Surya Maya continues to face difficult living conditions due to limited land and very few resources. Through Empowering Single Mother Initiative, SVSI supported her with Goats as income generating unit.
In the first phase of the project, she received four goats as initial support to start her goat farming journey. She then actively participated in various training sessions focused on goat rearing and management, which helped her improve her skills and confidence. In the second phase of the project, she received two additional goats to further expand her small-scale goat farm. With her dedication and care, she is able to raise total of 21 goats in her shed. Among that, she was able to sell 4 adult male goats. With now 17 goats in her shed, she is looking forward to expand the goats with the money she generated from selling the goats.
