Chitwan, Nepal — The Day Meal Program supported by Sapana Village Social Impact (SVSI) in government schools of Ratnanagar Municipality and Ichhakamana–1, Chitwan, is delivering measurable improvements in student attendance, learning outcomes, and overall child health.
The program provides nutritious daily meals to schoolchildren, many of whom rely on this as their most substantial meal of the day. With a focus on balanced menu planning and hygienic cooking practices, the initiative ensures that children receive essential nutrients required for healthy growth and cognitive development.
Schools participating in the program have reported noticeable increases in daily attendance, as families are more motivated to send their children to school knowing they will receive a nutritious meal. Teachers also observe better concentration, higher energy levels, and improved classroom participation among students.
In addition to educational benefits, the program is contributing to positive health outcomes. Schools and local stakeholders note reductions in signs of malnutrition and nutrient deficiencies, along with overall improvements in children’s physical well-being.
Strong community involvement is a key pillar of the program’s success. Parents, local volunteers, and school management committees actively support meal preparation, monitoring, and implementation, helping to ensure transparency, quality, and sustainability.
“The Day Meal Program demonstrates how nutrition and education go hand in hand,” said a representative from Sapana Village Social Impact. “By addressing hunger, we are removing one of the major barriers to learning.”
Through this initiative, Sapana Village continues to reinforce its commitment to child welfare, inclusive education, and long-term community development across Chitwan.
